Lantana in Zone 9; looking good for a Winter Weddi

We are having a backyard wedding in the middle of Dec. I know, we're crazy, but we're banking on sunny weather (it is zone 9 after all). My question is: I have some huge, beautiful lantana plants (that I usually cut back right about now)and I'm wondering if it is possible to keep them alive until then. I've bought some shrub style Christmas lights and tarps to protect them from cold nights, but my husband says it doesn't matter. He thinks it's no use, and that they will die by then. I need the cold hard truth. Will they survive or die even if protected?

(I need to know because I'm heading out to buy more tarps and lights.....I think that has something to do with my husband's oppinion:)
