Starting to Grow

Starting to Grow

Once the bed is prepared, planting may begin. This is one of my favorite parts of gardening because we make numerous trips to the nursery. Even though the winters here in Corpus Christi are hardly winters at all, making trips to the nurseries is tremendously uplifting. Whether I am having a good day or a bad day, a trip to the nursery just makes me feel better.

We needed things to fill our bed, and at this point, we wanted something temporary. A tropical paradise doesn't happen overnight! We planted tomatoes, green pepper, cucumber, and bananas. The bulbs around the edge are about ready to bloom, much to my surprise. They came out of a bed in the front yard bed in December. They sat on the ground until early March when I finally planted them.

I did not expect them to do anything, especially since I see other bulbs which remained in the ground that are nowhere near blooming. The ones I dug up and replanted are definitely doing better than the ones that remained in the ground. In general, I consider bulbs to be too much fuss. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the mystery bulbs blooming.
