This month we made our traditional pilgrimage to Ruth Merrill's home in Bay View. Ruth has been gracious enough to host this meeting,
the largest of all our gatherings, for a number of years now. As such, many have nicknamed her "Mrs Santa Clause", a title she rather enjoys
considering Christmas is her favorite time of year. Despite the rather 'wintery' weather conditions we once again had a large showing for this
final meeting of the year.
Our meeting started out as most other meetings with folks arriving around noon and socializing till it was time to eat. Once again, Ruth
along with her trusty "elf" Joanne Echevarria, went over board in putting the meal together. Couple the main dishes with all of the side
dishes and desserts that members brought and you have yourself a feast, and we did.
After the meal, we had a quick meeting planned to discuss some society business and update the members on the up coming meetings.
We also presented Ruth with a special gift for hosting this meeting once again. The society members then surprised John Volk, our
Chairman, with a $550. donation in his name to the Botanical Gardens in San Antonio. This was presented in appreciation for his efforts
to the society and it's members.
After the meeting, we all gathered about to do our traditional palm related gift exchange. Once again some unique palm related gifts were given.
Once the gift giving was over, sadly the meeting came to an end and we wrapped up yet another PSST year. We look forward to seeing you at future
meetings and wish all the very best in 2007.
