This month our society was treated to visiting Rick Bassett's home and garden in Harlingen. Rick has a beautiful garden and is an
avid gardener and plant collector. His garden has to be one of the most unique in southern Texas due to his extensive cactus collection.
Rick's love of plants start when he was a young boy living near Huntington Gardens in California. That passion only grew as he matured.
Per the norm, members started arriving around noon and began to socialize and tour the grounds on their own. Around 1pm we had a wonderful lunch
provided by Rick and his wife. The members were able to enjoy the serenity of the pool courtyard as they ate their meals. After the meal, Rick took
the large gathering of members on a tour of the gardens.
After the tour, we had a quick meeting to discuss normal society business and a few special topics. Of particular interest, we discussed the up coming
June meeting at Mercer Gardens (Houston), dedicating a bench and garden to the memory of Robert Riffle. We also spoke about the need for future society
officers and an bulletin editor. Many of our officers, as well as our editor, have been in their particular positions for many years and it's time to
have others volunteer to serve. In post meeting discussions, the editor and web masters positions are our immediate concern and we'd like to fill these soon.
If any one is interested in filling one of these positions, they should contact one of the society officers.
We look forward to seeing many of you next month in Houston. Details of the meeting and hotel arrangements will be forth coming. Until then, enjoy the
beautiful pictures of this months meeting. We thank Rick and his wife for hosting our society...
