On June 16th, 2001, PSST members were invited to the
home of Romeo and Linda Montalvo. This was the first meeting hosted by the
Montalvos, and it's always a treat to see something new. Their property was idle for
many years when the Montalvos moved in last year. Many mature mesquite and ebony
trees grace the landscape, but not nearly enough palms! Many of the palm trees are
juveniles which Romeo planted in the last year. Linda described the yard as trees
and dead grass when they started. In just one year, the amount of work poured into
this garden is impressive.

Tiled benches, tables and patio, a cool breeze coming off
the water, palm trees, and margaritas -- it all adds up to a great day in south
Texas.

The Rio Grande Valley was blessed with some rain the day before the
meeting. Moderate temperatures, ample shade and a gentle breeze smiled on our
gathering. PSST members and guests were treated royally with a variety of
beverages, a generous buffet and delicious desserts. Food and drinks were sponsored
by Pfizer. Romeo came in contact with a fellow plant enthusiast who is Pfizer's
representative. The rep was unable to attend that day, but we hope another meeting
will present an opportunity to express our thanks in person. There's always room for
one more plant fiend in PSST!

After visiting a good while, the buffet was welcomed with open arms, eyes, and plates.
