Butia capitata is the
hardiest of feather palms. The fruit is large and yellow/orange in color having a
sweet/tart flavor with a sweet fruity fragrance, suitable for making jelly. This Butia
(left) was planted in the late 60's and survived the big freeze of 1983 and again in 1989.
Palm was not protected and suffered only a slight leaf burn.
